| september 27, 2006 -- OMG, new release! |
| Thanks entirely to Sven, there is a new release of camorama. Get it from here. There are no .debs or anything yet, I'll see what I can do in the next few days. |
| november 7, 2005 -- help from Sven |
| I am delighted to let everyone know that Sven Herzberg, longtime GNOME hacker, has decided to do some work on camorama. He has a bunch of interesting ideas and hopefully we can make camo even better. |
| may 10, 2004 -- kernel 2.6.5 |
| seems to be somekind of problem with camo and kernel 2.6.5. i will look into i when i get a chance. probably a good thing as i have abandoned camorama lately. should fix it and have a new release reasonably soon. |
| september 12, 2003 -- camorama 0.17 in debian unstable! |
| thanks to costela, camo is now in debian unstable. woo hoo :)! in other news, i am moving back to canada in 5 days, so camorama development will be on hold for the next little while. good beer, here i come! ;) |
| august 21, 2003 -- 0.17 rpms now available |
| thanks to kyle gonzalez, there are now source and binary rpms available here |
| august 20, 2003 -- 0.17 finally here |
yay. took long enough, but it is here. i think there are more bugs now than last time, so if you find any please report them. new features include the ability to resize on the fly and a status tray icon so you can get camorama out of the way (and using no cpu resources). rpms should be ready soon, and i have stopped making debs because camorama is now in debian unstable. thanks costela!!! there are a couple of known problems with camorama at the moment, nothing serious, but i wanted to get a release out before i moved back to canada. i will try my best to fix these problems in the next couple of weeks for 0.18. |
| august 5, 2003 -- 0.17 still on the way |
| been messing around with dashboard the last few days and waiting for some feedback from a few testers before releasing 0.17. end of the week, i hope. |
| july 30, 2003 -- new screen shots! |
just put up a bunch of new screenshots here. lovely ui, prefs and effects.i |
| july 30, 2003 -- 0.17 is almost here |
yah, so i am not dead or anything, and neither is camorama. I am hoping for a release by the 1st of august. everything runs nice here, but i'd like to do a little testing on other cams before i release it. fixed some nasty bugs, added some cool stuff and made the gui even prettier, if that is possible ;). more news shortly. |
| april 24, 2003 -- mozilla fun fixed |
changed my css to play nice with latest gecko. thanks to Hile Tuohela for the hint :). probably release a new version soon, actually doing some work on the code these days.
| april 22, 2003 -- still alive |
so until today, i haven't done anything on camorama for about 2 months. what a slacker and all that. however i finally got around to doing some fixes and putting the read() functionality back in. this means if you camera does not support mmap(), camo will now work for you. yay ;)! you can get the latest from cvs.
there are a few more things to fix, some testing of the new stuff, then maybe? a new release for the mmap-challenged.
| january 31, 2003 -- fixes |
seemed to be some problems with the last release, mainly with the rpms. there are new ones on the download page, so if you had problems, try them out.
| january 21, 2003 -- finalamente! |
so finally 0.16 is ready to go. that is all i have to say about that ;-). oh yeah, if anyone uses camorama to upload pictures to their site, please send me the url so i can put it on the links page. you can also now get camorama out of gnome cvs. lastly, thanks to kyle, jens, chris and alessio for all their help testing!

| january 15, 2003 -- news |
0.16 will be coming out in a couple of days. hmm, deja vu ;-). just making some last minute adjustments and fixing a ton of make/config problems. also xml'ing it up, cause everyone loves xml. I also just put up a couple new rpms, thanks to Kyle Gonzales. another src rpm and a rh8 binary. this should fix the problems people were having building camorama on rh8. thanks kyle! oh yeah, 0.16 will be released with src/debs/rpms all at once this time, just to make things easier..... |
| january 8, 2003 -- happy new year |
0.16 will be coming out in a couple of days. the gui has been totally redone, thanks to Jens Knutson. if you have any complaints, send them to him ;). yeah right, the new ui is excellent. i have also switched from gdk-imlib to gdk-pixbuf, which should help fix some problems. there is a picture of the new gui here.
| december 2, 2002 -- 0.15 is finally here! |
wow, i suck :). 3 months later, 0.15 is out. in the spirit of all the lame gnome release names that i have heard recently, i would like to call this the "cyndy lauper ethic" release. cause girls just wanna have fun....
anyway you can do a few more cool things with this version. nothing too exciting. some bug fixes as well. the rpms should be up in a couple of days.
| october 31, 2002 -- 0.15 still almost ready.... |
wow, a month has gone by and i have not touched camorama. sorry! busy at work, busy at home, trying to get me new laptop thru customs, etc, etc. just looking at the code now. should be ready soon. as i keep saying :). you can now set a capture interval. ie. upload a new pic every 10 minutes or whatever. if i can find some docs i will make camorama dockable in the gnome system tray. 0.16 for that i would think. right now i'll try to get things in shape for 0.15, rather than add more stuff. happy halloween!
| september 30, 2002 -- 0.15 almost ready |
busy month, so things have been going slow on camorama. 0.15 should be out next week, when i get back from the coast. fixed quite a few bugs, added a customizable timestamp to the saved images and after much screwing around, you can save images to a remote sever via ftp. here is an example.
| august 29, 2002 -- 0.14 rpms released |

| august 28, 2002 -- 0.14 released |
0.14 is out today. a few new features, some code cleanup/bug fixes. also check out the new gallery of shots from camorama
| august 27, 2002 -- not much going on... |
i haven't been doing anything with camorama for a while. busy at work and the like. i will release 0.14 soon. not much new. different save formats and a couple new filters. not sure where to go from here :).
i did just update the debs, so they should now work with the latest gtk2 release.
| august 5, 2002 -- rpms |
kirk whiting has been kind enough to supply a source rpm for camorama, with a regular rpm coming soon. it can be built with the following line:
rpm --rebuild camorama-0.13-1.rh73.src.rpm
it has been a while since i used an rpm based distro, so i don't know how much help i can be, but if you have any problems, let me know. kirk passed on this link for gnome2 rpms as well:
ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/pre-gnome2/snapshots/redhat-73-i386/RPMS/
0.14 is coming along. captures can be saved as jpg, png and ppm. also going to add a few filters. then i am going to take a break, unless i get some feedback. i don't know what else to add/fix :).
| july 31, 2002 -- lucky 0.13... |
release 0.13 is out now. switched back from read() to mmap(). much faster, once again. one of these days it will be perfect ;). slight gui redesign, too. and some other stuff, check the changelog. someone please send me some screenshots, i am getting sick of mine. any other feedback would be appreciated as well.
| july 30, 2002 -- working the fps... |
working on 0.13. should be out in a few days. switched from mmap() to read(). big speed improvement, for both cams i am using, but still not quite right. also added gconf support, so now the prefs are saved and loaded automatically.
| july 27, 2002 -- broken links |
oops! sorry, but the links on freshmeat for version 0.12 actually pointed to 0.11. if you downloaded camorama right off freshmeat, you have the older version. i have updated the links on freshmeat (they should be working shortly), or you can get the latest version from the downloads page. |
| july 26, 2002 -- apt-get 0wns y00! |
set it up so that you can apt-get camorama.
add this to your sources.list:
deb http://camorama.fixedgear.org/downloads/debian ./
then:
apt-get install camorama
debian rules :-).
| july 26, 2002 -- 0.12 released |
new release. bunch of fixes, should run on most cams now, although i am not sure how well ;). more command line options, better documentation and user selectable dir/file for image saves. also, if anyone has any cool screenshots, please send them to me.
| july 24, 2002 -- working on 0.12 |
next release is coming along, should be out in a few days. got camorama working with a quickcam express, although the fps is pretty poor. also working on the capture/save option. and fixing my terrible documentation.
| july 19, 2002 -- new web page |
well made a new page before anyone saw the ugly old one (keep your "ugly new one" comments to yourself ;-)). submited camorama to freshmeat. wait and see what happens....
| july 18, 2002 -- initial release of camorama |
this thing works pretty good for me, so i figure i should get it out there and see how people can break it ;). this is definitely an alpha release. i have only tested it on my creative webcam, and have no idea if it will work for any other camera. everyone try it out and let me know. i also need to fix the webpage, it is dang ugly. all in good time.....
